How to Keep Your Baby Clean and Safe from the Sun at the Pool
During the summer time, it is almost a must for families to spend some time outside. Whether at the beach or at the pool, families with young ones should take extra precautions to keep their babies safe and clean. Here are some tips on how you can keep your baby safe from the sun.
Babies are vulnerable and can easily suffer from short and long term damage of sunburn. Not only that, excessive heat exposure can cause heat stroke that is why keeping them cool under the sun is very crucial. Sunburns will cause fever, pain and dehydration, and people who suffered from sunburns during childhood have increased risk for melanoma, a deadly type of skin cancer.
As much as possible keep your baby out of the sun until his or her 6th month. This is the best way to keep them safe. The sun is most harmful at 10 am to 4 pm so try to avoid those times. When you take the baby outside use the sunshade of his or her stroller for protection. Try to always keep them under the shade of an umbrella. Sun tents with UV protection will keep your baby cool too.
Swimming for babies that are under 6 months is not advisable so avoid that. Their skin is very sensitive and hard water can give them rashes. If you bring them with you to the beach or pool side, let them wear loose clothes to prevent heat stroke. Give them lots of water of milk to stay cool and hydrated. UV sleeves are good for protecting playing babies under the sun too.
For babies that can be brought to the water, let them wear protective swimsuits. There are swimsuits that have built in UV rays protection; they will give better protection to your kids. When it comes to keeping them clean, let them wear swim diapers to prevent the spread of bacteria especially when you are on a pool. Iplay swim diaper is a good choice for this.
Water is a major hazard for babies so be sure to keep them in sight. Do not become too dependent on floating devices and let your kids use them alone, those are only made to use with adult supervisions. Ear plugs are recommended for kids that are prone to ear infections. Goggles are advisable too so you protect their eyes from chlorine.
Use children safe sunscreen for your kids. Natural sunscreens with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are good because they are easily absorbed by the skin and do not contain harmful chemicals that can irritate your baby's skin. U can also let them wear sunglasses and hats while they play.
Those are the basic things you should do when taking your baby out for a swim. Never let them out of your sight and keep in mind that they are only safe if you are safe too. It is good to let infants and toddlers to enjoy and take part of these things that you do as a family. By remembering those things we mentioned above, you can enjoy the summer together safely.
