The Quintessential Ccharm of the Delhi Winter Season
Delhi ki Sardi or the winter season of Delhi is directly proportional to the season of food in the city. It is during this time of the year that the food stalls on the streets come alive with piping hot samosas, a huge spread of chat items like gol gappas and many more lip-smacking delicacies. Lots of people visit the area around Chandni Chowk just to taste the snacks sold on the stalls there. The people of Delhi enjoy their food during this season and make the most of it by trying different kinds of cuisine. The chats on the street stalls at Chandni Chowk, the exotic parathas at Paranthewali Gali and a hot cup of tea make the winters complete for many a youngster at Delhi.
Winter Weddings
Delhi ki Sardi is considered to be the ideal season for weddings. During winter season, one can find many marriages happening in the place which makes the ambience all the more lively. When there is a wedding, can food be left far behind? Marriages are mostly a grand affair in Delhi and the food servings are something that could take even a food connoisseur by surprise. On most of the winter evenings, people of Delhi equip themselves at a friend’s or relative’s wedding enjoying the chill ambience of the air coupled with the hot and delicious food.
Winter and Tourism
The tourism sector earns a sizeable income during the winter season as there are exciting tourist packages to attract domestic and international tourists. As winter begins to sets in during November and mid of December, the climate of Delhi is absolutely pleasant and the entire place is very vibrant during this time. All the tourist attractions are crowded with people who come from far-off places across the globe to enjoy the excellent climate of this vibrant city. However, during the last week of December till January, winter is quite harsh upon Delhi, with the temperature sometimes going down to 5 degrees Celsius and even lower. Many flights get cancelled during this time and it is better not to make any travel plans or trips during this part of the year in Delhi.
Fog in Delhi
Delhi is one of those places that are highly prone to fog affecting the entire transport network in the city. In the beginning of January, Delhi experienced the harshest level of fog in the past 3 years as the visibility was lesser even than the compulsory distance of 50m. The thick cover of fog in Delhi threw the travel plans of tourists out of proportion as around 200 flights were either cancelled or postponed. Air travellers were not allowed to come outside the airport as well, citing security reasons which resulted in a wide-spread commotion among passengers in the airport. The thick fog cover is expected to last in Delhi at least for another couple of days, post which, visibility levels could improve. Train services in Delhi too were hit badly due to the fog cover and roads were clogged with huge traffic due to poor visibility levels.
