Self Confidence Through Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Hypnosis

You Can Succeed

by Alan Densky

Self confidence is an emotional and psychological state that responds to a person's need for self-acceptance and peer recognition. It's among the oldest and most discussed concepts in psychology. It is used to describe a good but also realistic perception of oneself and one's abilities. Thus, people with self confidence most often have a better idea of what they can achieve and will be more likely to be successful in their projects. They are able to more readily admit and understand their mistakes.

On the contrary, a lack of confidence can deter you from believing your actions or decisions will ultimately turn out the way you had expected. It can hence impede the improvement of executive aptitudes, planning and managerial capacities all of which are basic and sought-after things in the business world of today. The pre-occupation with how others will judge your work may also cause you to become too self-critical, which can distract you from jobs you would have otherwise been perfectly capable of performing.

Low self confidence will also have an impact your social life, as people with low self confidence tend to remain in their "comfort zone" and dread the risk of rejection. This is called social phobia and presents a high level of co-morbidity with low self confidence, but also other psychological afflictions like depression. People with low self confidence are scared of being judged by others and will avoid meeting new people, which can consequently lead to isolation and even lower self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious circle that's difficult to break.

On the other hand, because they are able to trust their own aptitudes, people with self confidence can do what they feel is right and don't expect the approval of their peers. They are also able to inspire confidence: your friends, relatives, boss, employees or customers will be more likely to trust you or what you are telling them if you appear self-confident.

Various experiences can cause low self confidence. New research proves that education has an important effect on the development of a child's self confidence. Physical and emotional abuses during childhood are for example the most damaging to somebody's self confidence, as well as family conflicts and divorce. Overprotective parents may also contribute to a child's social phobia and discourage the independence mandatory to build self confidence. Successes and failures, for example at school or in one's professional life, also play a significant role: losing a job or failing a class are among the several experiences that will have a negative impact your self confidence.

There are however ways to overcome such bad experiences and increase self confidence. The first step to develop self confidence is to learn to know yourself and your strengths. Admitting the fact that you cannot be perfect and cannot be good in everything you do will help you gain self confidence. Accepting yourself as you are is the key to building self confidence. But in order to improve your self confidence you also have to start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your accomplishments. This is very basic advice which will help you build self confidence. You might also find a lot of books which will claim they can help you gain self confidence, but many of them are not reliable.

Many people suffer from low self confidence or are only able to gain self confidence in one or a certain number of areas of their lives because they always try to get other people's approval and are afraid of failing. Numerous factors, such as childhood traumas, can explain why some people are not able to enjoy the wholesome life of a self confident person. Such persons also don't always know how to gain self confidence. But gaining self confidence can now readily and effectively be done through hypnosis and NLP.

As we have seen social phobia and low self confidence can stem from bad experiences or unconscious fears that are sometimes difficult to overcome through sheer self persuasion. Confidence hypnosis and NLP by contrast can get to the unconscious part of the mind and alter belief systems to boost self confidence. They are effective tools that will help you address your fears and believe in yourself to develop self confidence.

Hypnosis for building self-confidence has been used for a few decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. Once in a hypnotic state, getting to unconscious thoughts is much easier and, thanks to hypnotic suggestion, you will be able to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to boost self-confidence.
