Choosing the right fireplace

by Jakob Jelling

Choosing the right fireplace is a very important step when designing a room or a special corner in the house, since this spot will surely become a family gathering area. There are many different materials and designs to consider at the time of choosing the right fireplace, each one of them adding a special mood and style to the area where it will be located.

One first thing you should have in mind is that if you are looking for a fireplace that will be located in an already designed room, it should complement its style. On the other hand, if the fireplace will be part of a new room design, your options will be broader and you could even opt to adapt the rest of the room's style to it.

If you are looking for a traditional and warm fireplace design, you could opt for bricks. Brick fireplaces are always very attractive as well as they add a special and welcoming mood to the room in which they are. If you go for this option, you should keep in mind that although any kind of bricks can be used for the exterior of the fireplace, its interior must have firebricks.

Other fireplace option you might want to consider is marble. Marble fireplaces are very stylish and durable, as well as they can adapt for many different styles of rooms. Besides this, marble fireplaces can be found or made in many different colors, allowing you to choose the one which best adapts to your room or your preferences.

If you wish to have a fun and fresh looking fireplace, a tiled one might be the best choice. Due to the versatility that tiles offer, a tiled fireplace allows the designer to use as much imagination and creativity as he wishes. From tiles with colorful or geometrical stylish designs to others with romantic or floral patterns, this is a very versatile material which allows many different results. Besides this, tiles can be used to cover many old materials, being this way a great option when willing to change the appearance of an already existing fireplace.
