Working from Home
Create a Work Space
I have learned how to work at home through trial and error. It took me a couple of times before I got it right. The biggest thing that helped me stay focused on working at my home was to have a designated space. You have to have a place that is your work place, a place where you can shut the door and focus solely on working. It has to be your own space during those time periods. Weather it’s a den, garage or even your own bedroom. You need to have that space where you can completely focus on nothing else but work. You have to find a place that is your office. If you don’t have a set-up where you can go and block everything out, you need to make one. It doesn’t have to be anything big. You can try painting the room a different color or getting some decorations that make you feel like you are in your office. Whatever it takes you to feel prosperous in your work space.
Another thing that will help you focus on working at home is by dressing up. I don’t mean a tie but going through the ritual of getting up and getting ready just like a regular work day. Have attire that motivates and makes me feel like going to work. Rather than just getting up and sitting in pajamas; Get up, take a shower and put on those clothes that motivate you to work. You have to get in that routine. This will change your mind set and motivate you.
When your working you can easily get side tracked with a call that can’t make you money: calls from friends and family. You have to have a rule in these situations. When you take time out of your work hours to talk to a friend or family member you have to make a time limit. You have to restrict your time talking to them. You can always call them back after work. You have to keep your family time and business time separate. Anything can distract you and what happens is now you don’t have time to take care of business.
Those are the three big rules to successfully working from home. The benefits are huge. When you finish your work when it needs to get done you can spend more time with your family and make more money. It is going to be challenging to successfully work at home but when you do you will be glad you did it.
