Be the Hero and Heroine of your Life Journey! by Andrew Schneider

by Andrew Schneider

When we embark on our own heroic quest in life, each of us -- male and female alike -- must take both the hero’s and the heroine’s journeys. Why? Because they are each one-half of the soul journey to wholeness.

The heroic quest is a soul-inspired search to find and unite with the self. To succeed, we must discover both the male and the female within. We must also be able to express each of those sides of our being when appropriate. Few of us are able to do that very well.

When we take this journey we do so as personalities that are somewhat aligned with soul. As hero we use some of the Power aspect of soul, embarking upon a purpose that will serve a greater good. As heroine we use some of the Love aspect of soul to bring about right relationship and unity. The success of the quest results in intelligent activity, the Light aspect of soul. To the degree that we’re successful, we can then be a light for others. We can assist them in their quest by simply living our life with a different quality.

The hero’s journey gives us a sense of purpose. The hero is the male within us that must mentally and physically remove the obstacles in our journey. The most basic obstacle is that which keeps us separate from ourselves or from the goal. There are parts of us that do not know what our higher quest is all about. These parts are unconsciously projected outward. When we find them on our path we struggle against them. They are the dragons and monsters the hero must battle.

The heroine’s journey is what gives meaning to our life and experiences. The heroine is the female within us that must merge with the reality that’s exposed when the obstacles are removed. The female energy must be venerated as the giver of life and the consumer of death. It must take us more fully into the relationships between life and death. This is the basis for inspiration, creativity, sacrifice and transformation.

We are to learn that it is not the female alone who gives life and the male alone who holds the forms in place. It is really the merging of the two that constantly creates. Together, they give and nurture life, transforming and growing the fruits of the union and dissolving them when their time is done. It is only when the two merge that soul and personality come together as one and consciousness unfolds.

Heroism means more boldness than conquest. The hero and heroine are heroic because they venture to an unknown land – not to defeat its occupants but instead to become one with them. We begin our heroic journey when we begin to discover the unity behind the apparent dualities of life, and perceive the underlying oneness that we all share. It continues as we dedicate ourselves on a daily basis to support and serve that unity.

The heroic quest is a reflection of the most fundamental urge within every human being – the urge to experience wholeness. To be a hero/heroine is to live in a soul-centered way.
