Most people enjoy going to restaurants because they save us from cooking at home, usually serve a better quality of food than we could prepare and allow us to enjoy being waited on hand and foot for an evening. Of course restaurants are big business and restaurateurs spend a lot of money trying to make their place better than that of their rivals. This might involve offering financial incentives, providing special entertainment or maybe employing a famous or award winning chef.<br/><br/> All this is very good for the restaurant but there are some fundamental mistakes that often get made by restaurants that can make a customer less likely to come back. And any business knows that the real money lies in loyal returning customers and not in creating new customers.<br/><br/> Here are some of the major mistakes restaurants make that put off customers.<br/><br/> Location<br/><br/> A restaurant might have the best food, the best chef, impeccable service and an interior like the Sistine Chapel, but if it is in the wrong location all the effort and money will have been in vain. New restaurants especially need to be in an area that people frequent. They need to be able to walk or drive past and easily spot that it is a restaurant from the outside. While exclusive places with Michelin starred chefs may be able to hide the place in the countryside, most normal restaurant will fail to get enough determined customers to merit such unique locations. It is a big mistake for restaurants to think they can survive on their reputation spreading by word of mouth; they need as centrally located, easy to find location as possible to make the most of potential customers.<br/><br/> Bad Service<br/><br/> Poor service is pretty much unforgivable in the eyes of customers. No matter who you are or where you are from, bad service is easy to spot. It could simply be: having to wait a long period between course or it may be that a waiter is rude or sarcastic when taking your order. There are so many small things that can put a customer off that it is near impossible for a restaurant manager to address every issue but they can set a standard that is high enough that the vast majority of customers leave happy.<br/><br/> When restaurants fail to make sure their service is second to none and think that their food or prices will make up for it, they are making a big mistake that can lead to the downfall of the whole enterprise. All the gimmicky funny t shirts or retro t shirts in the world won't be able to save them.<br/><br/> The fact is that like any business a restaurant has to provide a better service than others, and whether that be through quirky gimmicks or just good business acumen the important thing is the quality of the food and service.<br/><br/><br/><br/>
