Save on Memory Book Products Using These Ideas

Here are some handy ideas on cutting your costs while doing the addictive hobby -- scrapbooking!

by Debbie Luker

Scrapbooking can be an expensive hobby. From patterned paper, accents, embellishments, and cardstock, the costs can add up quickly. Scrapbooking has been my love for about 7 years and at first, I went to all the specialty scrapbook supply shops, where supplies are more costly. Since then though, I have found some super ways to save cash.

Scrapbooking Supplies at a Discount The most obvious way to save money is to locate a store that sells scrapbook products at a discount. I have discovered that online shops truly have lower prices than offline shops. One example is they carry the Hermafix Dotto Glue Refill for $3.99, this is two bucks less than at the two local scrapbooking shops near my house. The only shortcoming of ordering your scrapbook products on the Internet is that you'll have to wait a day or two or four. So I wanted to find a site that ships same day. Another thing to look for on a scrapbook products website is free shipping. The best sites will give free shipping if your order exceeds a given figure. The lower that number, the better! The lowest I have seen is $25 and that is pretty good.

Reducing Paper Costs Another way to save big bucks on scrapbook products is by using 12x12 paper. You get more for the money than when buying 8 " x 11" paper. It also goes a longer way{ in that you can use the scraps in creating trappings. Also, there are a wide variety of cardstock colors. You can always use cardstock on a layout. Sometimes, that's all I use. This way, you don't use and therefore you don't need to buy patterned paper. This cuts down costs a lot as patterned papers are fairly pricey.

Saving on Adornments A way to save more cash is by cutting down on scrapbook products, like embellishments. The actual focus of pages is assumed to be the pictures. You dont have to spend your cash on a bunch of little doohickies and you'll save time too by not having to make something special.

If you just can't go on sans embellishments, buy all-purpose embellishment materials that can be used on several different layouts instead of buying embellishments for use on one specific page. For example, purchase fibers in a package that has several different colors. Tags are another nice embellishment that will go on any layout.

Scrapbooking doesn't have to be costly. Remember that the central point of scrapbooks is the photos and the memories that go along with them, not how much money you spent!
