Fitting Termite Control Into The Small Business Equation

by Sylvia E. Iacovelli

Setting up a business budget is a hard process, though you may not first consider termite control to be an important factor it certainly should be. Yes, you must have countertops, cash registers, and a truck to haul deliveries back and forth. Think about it, do you think your clients are planning to spend time in a store that is packed with insects or rodents?

These pests do more than just frighten your customers and scare away good employees; they can also cause great damage to your supplies and machinery. Small ants have even been known to set up residence inside of large pieces of machinery, resulting in damage and electrical shortages. All it would take for a couple of rats or bugs to damage your stock room packed with merchandise and supplies is a weekend.

Though you might be able to get some compensation for damages from your liability provider, it is unlikely that everything will be covered and it is even more unlikely that this cash will be enough to take care of the rumors around town. There is also no way to collect the time you were out of business or experienced limited business because of loss and damages from an insect or rodent infestation attack of this magnitude.

It is important that companies come to understand that the fact they aren't selling food does not make them immune to these issues. There is also no reason to believe that pests are only interested in places where food is openly distributed, all it takes is the crumbs from an employee's sandwich or even a good cold spell to draw them in. There is often an abundance of bugs in homes and businesses following heavy storms and in the winter, for this very reason. The termite, one of the greatest problems for most people, lives off of wood and many other bugs enjoy paper, cardboard, and sheetrock.

Termite control tends to be a very big part of managing a fruitful business, as does other forms of preventative pest management. There are several different companies that offer a full range of extermination services, including that which is aimed at termites, for a good price. Often organizations such as these promote extended hours for businesses, allowing them to service a building when it is mostly uninhabited. Once a contract is put up and signed, the exterminators will continue to visit throughout the year at regular intervals to treat the issue and provide protection from any sort of future invasion.
