Final Fantasy 3 on Nintendo DS - Available for the First Time in Europe
The Story: A Fantasy Reborn. As their world descends into darkness, four young heroes are chosen to bear the burden of its fading hope…The Gulgan thus prophesied: "The earthquake was only the beginning. The great tremors that swallowed the crystals, the light of our world, only spawn monsters from the depths of the scarred land, are nothing but harbingers of what has yet to come. Something is coming…fathomless, ominous, and full of sorrow… But hop is not yet lost. Four souls will be blessed with light, and so it shall begin…"
The Characters: 1. Luneth – An orphan raised by Nina and Elder Topapa in the village of Ur. Adventurous by nature, his curiosity gets the better of him as he tumbles into a hold created by the great earthquake.
2. Raised by Topapa another orphan and Luneths's best friend - Arc. Unlike Luneth, he prefers reading over gambolling in the wild. His studies endow him with great knowledge that more than makes up for his shyness.
3. Refia – Raised in Kazus by the mythril smith Takka, whose rigorous training led her to run away from home…again.
4. Ingus – A loyal soldier of king Sasune's army, he narrowly escaped the Djinn's curse. His prime concern is finding the missing Princess Sara.
Game Detail:
Final Fantasy 3 DS is played using three types of mode: Field, Menu and Battle.
The field mode allows you to travel the world via a map display and experience the story as it unfolds, as you journey across the map to discover towns, dungeons and other points of interest. From here you will be able to gather information in towns or delve into treacherous dungeons. You can also find wellsprings with various magical properties that affect the entire party. Some springs restore HP (Health Points) and MP (Magic Points), while others remove status ailments. KO status can even be removed using some of the springs. The game will also allow you to save your progress from this screen.
When exploring the Final Fantasy 3 world you will be able to open up dialogue to others allowing you to gather information for your journey. Further characters will also join your party throughout and whilst you will not be able to control them, you will learn valuable information from them.
Items can also be used during specific events, at certain places or with other characters as well as examining your surroundings. Various items shops are available where you are can purchase various magic potions, weapons and armour, whilst other establishments include inns which will restore HP & MP whilst resting.
To help you around the world map various modes of transportation will appear throughout the game:
1. Cid's Airship - which was crafted by Cid, an old man living in Canaan. Although it allows you to fly, it cannot pass over mountains.
2. The Enterprise – No not that one! This however is a fine seafaring vessel and a gift from the vikings' boss.
3. Folding Canoe – This handy device was once possessed by King Sasune. Allowing you to easily navigate both rivers and lakes.
4. Chocobos – Special creatures that can be found in unique wooded areas on the map.
Battle mode is when you encounter enemies and will trigger a battle sequence.
Party members and enemies will be represented and a new camera angle will shift whilst each character or enemy takes charge.
Here you will enter and execute various commands such as attack, cast magic, guard, equip or use item, arrange characters to front or rear of battle and even escape from the current battle.
Should you defeat the enemies then you yield experience points, gil (money) and sometimes items. However lose which can occur by KO, petrified, or otherwise unable to act…the game is over.
Whilst in battle or to aid the party, you are able to cast spells, retaliate or even summon forth a magical beast to aid you in your quest. Completing varous jobs will allow you to advance levels and enhance your skills. Although you will begin with only the Freelancer job available, others will become unlocked as you proceed in your journey.
Choose you jobs wisely as many challenges within the game require specific jobs to handle the task at hand. Damage a character can deal in battle will increase as job levels also increase. Mastering a job may yield something very special indeed.
