One day in Berlin

by wlodi idolw

As you wonder around the streets of Berlin today, it will be almost impossible for you to detect the traces of its turbulent history and the demolition it suffered in WWII. The city has a population of 3.4 million, compared to 4.5 million before the war. It was divided into West and East Berlin from 1949 to 1990. The great fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990 was what removed this distinction. The capital of Germany is located in the northern part of the country, between the plateaus of Teltow and Barnim to the south and north respectively. It is encircled by the federal state of Brandenburg, the capital of which is Potsdam, a World Heritage site. Brandenburg borders Poland and Saxony on German land, and the breathtaking Elbe and Oder rivers run alongside its territory. The rivers Spree and Havel flow through Brandenburg itself. Berlin stands on the sands of these rivers. Brandenburg consists of 15 districts and four independent towns. It has excellent connections to all major destinations with three international airports in the region. It has over 3000 beautiful lakes and a water surface of 30 000 km total, as well as castles dating back to the Age of Prussia, gardens on UNESCO
