Wigs – How to Choose the Right One

by Tim Bock

There are many reasons why people choose to wear a wig. Some people want to change their look for one night, while others wish to hide the fact that their hair is starting to thin. Regardless of the reason, there are a few things that you should consider before purchasing a wig.

They come in so many different styles and range from inexpensive to very expensive. But keep in mind you basically get what you pay for. Generally speaking the more you pay for a hairpiece, the longer it will last. First you should determine how you are going to use it. If it’s only going to be used occasionally, then you may want to go with something less expensive. However, you may want to pay more if it’s going to be designed for daily use.

The next thing to consider is how the wig is going to be used. Synthetic hair cannot be colored, permed or curled, so once you buy one, you’ll be stuck with that style. A natural-hair wig may be the best way to go. While it is a bit more expensive, you’ll be able to color, cut and curl it anyway you like. Natural-hair wigs also tend to look more natural in sunlight then synthetic wigs. The prices for natural-hair wigs will still vary according to quality and the length of the hair. But once again, you get what you pay for.

If the hairpiece is going to be designed for daily use, make sure it’s light and finely woven. This should allow air to circulate through the wig and scalp. If the wig is too tight, it may cut off the blood supply to your scalp which could cause more hair loss.

Be sure you shop around before buy anything. It’s importing to weigh your options, so you can be satisfied with your hairpiece for years to come.
