What Makes A Comfortable Bed?

by Jamie Simpson

People often spend more time choosing living room or dining room furniture than they spend selecting bedroom furniture. The reason for this may be that they expect the living room and dining room to be seen more by visitors. The one fact that they fail to consider is that their entire day can be affected by the quality of sleep they get each night. For children and adults, the bedroom is their personal space. It should be a place designed for relaxation.

The bed is usually the focal point of any bedroom. Everyone wants an attractive and a comfortable bed in their bedroom. The size of the bed affects the level of comfort for those using it. If two people are sharing a bed, the bed needs to be large enough for both people to have enough space to move around comfortably. Of course, you will also have to consider how the size of the bed affects the flow of traffic in the room. Both sides of the bed need to be easily accessible. Choosing a large bed may mean that you need to limit the number of accessory pieces you include in the room. The height of the bed is also a factor to consider when choosing a bed.

The actual components of the bed play a large role in its comfort level. You should spend a considerable amount of time selecting the most comfortable mattress. The firmness of the mattress can determine how well you sleep at night and how rested your body feels in the morning. A memory foam mattress is often an ideal choice for a bed that two people share. A mattress that contours to each person's body shape and temperature is a popular choice as are pillow top mattresses. The thickness of the mattress is a factor to consider when buying bedding ensembles.

The mattress is one component of the bed where you should spend as much money as your budget allows to buy the best mattress for your situation. Another component of the bed where you should not skimp on quality is the pillows. Memory foam pillows are a popular choice. The size and firmness of the pillow is an individual choice but should definitely be a pillow that provides your head and neck the maximum amount of comfort.

The outer covering of your bed affects the overall attractiveness of the bedroom. You may want to choose ensembles that correspond to your home decor or bed sets that are seasonally appropriate. The comfort level of your bed is directly affected by the type of sheets and coverings you select. Flannel sheets, cotton sheets, organic sheets, and satin sheets are just a few material options you have to select from. In order for your bed to look good and for you to sleep comfortably, the sheets must fit the bed properly. Sheets that slide around or bunch up are unattractive and uncomfortable.
