Tips on Choosing the Right Nursing Home

by Clarkbrynn Ezra

Choosing from all of the nursing homes Seattle options that are out there can be difficult. This might be the hardest decision you have had to make since putting your loved one in the nursing home in the first place, and deciding which nursing home is the best possible choice is tough. However there are a few things That you can bear in mind.

One of the major concerns these days are the stories in the news about how nursing homes don't take care of seniors properly. This shouldn't be a concern because it has only happened in a few isolated cases. The prevalence of good nursing homes is much higher than those that have had problems, and most of the staff in these nursing homes are very professional.

Almost all of the nursing facilities that are out there are perfectly safe for your loved ones, and have a great reputation for personal care of patients that are living there. These patients simply cannot get the same level or quality of care at assisted living or with some other type of care.

While you may not have a long time to search for the perfect nursing home for your loved one, especially if they are coming from a hospital that is keen to discharge them as soon as possible, you should still do your best to find a care facility that has most if not all of the qualities previously mentioned.

There is one great resource when it comes to nursing homes: a database compiled by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. They rank the nursing homes from one to five stars based upon data that they have collected like the professionalism of the facility and the training of the staff, as well as the quality of care and any health inspections.

Your second task after you have come up with some good candidates from the data that you have collected to to pay the nursing homes in question a visit. This will be a series of visits, and not just one single one, because you want to see how the facility operates at different times of the day, and with different staff.

After that, you should talk with whoever heads the facility, with a discussion with the executive director and the head doctor and nurse at minimum. Make sure that you prepare a list of questions and be aware that it may take some time to get to talk to them. However, if they give you the run around you should be wary.

If you have looked at all of the nursing homes Seattle options that you have in the area, then you will probably find several that are up to your standards, and hopefully you will find the perfect facility to take care of your loved one and improve their quality of life.
