Grand Canyon Helicopter Travels Over the Spring Break Holiday Season

by Lea Fallon

It is now the Spring Break holiday season here in the U.S. So if you're thinking about going for a Grand Canyon chopper tour soon, you'd better book it soon. Listed here are our recommendations for the best trips.

You can take one of these tour out of Las Vegas or from Arizona. The South Rim helicopter tours all originate in Arizona, but if you'll be staying in Las Vegas, you can catch a helicopter tour to the West Rim instead. You can still tour the South, North, or East Rim if you'll be staying in Vegas, but you have to get from Vegas to the South Rim another way, such as by plane, before you can begin the helicopter portion of the tour.

Tours Departing from Las Vegas

The helicopters that fly out of Las Vegas take a flight path that goes over the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. That's adds an extra bonus to your Grand Canyon air tour. The Las Vegas air tours are also available in air-only or landing versions.

The landing tours are pretty exciting because some of them fly down into the canyon and land on the canyon floor. Once at the base of the canyon, you'll be treated to a picnic with Champagne alongside the Colorado River. These bottom landing tours can even be coupled with a riverboat ride, allowing you to see even more of the beautiful rock formations around the river basin.

Some of the landing tours set down on top of the rim instead, so you can visit the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Looking down 4000ft to the bottom of the Canyon is a breathtaking and exhilarating experience.

Tours Departing from Arizona

If you're starting in Arizona, or even if you take a flight there from Vegas, you'll be departing on your helicopter ride right outside the gates of the National Park. Helicopter tours begin at the South Rim, and the standard tour will take you to the remote North Rim and back again. The tour includes thirty minutes of air time and lets you see some spectacular scenery.

You can't take a landing tour at the South Rim, but the tours there are still worth doing. For instance, there is a 50-minute deluxe tour that is very comprehensive, and it takes you over 3/4 of the whole national park. The tour encompasses all the land between the North Rim and South Rim over to the East Rim, including the remote wilderness areas. If you take this fun air tour over Spring Break, you'll get to see more of the Grand Canyon in an hour than most people will see in their whole lives.

Another fun tour you can take at the South Rim is one that comes with a thirty-minute chopper tour and a two-hour Jeep tour of the canyon. It's really fun because you can see famous landmarks from the air and from the ground too.

Tours Sell Out, So Book Early

These fun tours sell out pretty fast, especially during busy times like Spring Break, therefore be sure to book your tour early. I recommend that you purchase your tickets as early as you can and for best results do it shortly after you reserve your hotel room. It's a good idea to go ahead and book your helicopter tour at the same time you book your hotel reservations.

Once you've figured out which tour you want, go online and save money by purchasing it in advance at some of the lowest rates possible. Plus, when you buy your tour online from the tour operator's website, you can avoid paying a travel agent, and that means you'll get the lowest price possible.

To Wrap Up

Hopefully this article helps you to get the most out of your Spring Break trip to the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon helicopter tours offer the ultimate in sightseeing. If you want even more adventure, add a landing tour to a West Rim trip or a Jeep excursion to a South Rim tour.

Don't forget to book your seats as early as you can. Spring Break is underway and tickets are already being sold, so book now and get the tour you want.
