by Jackie De Burca

It's great to see that sports stars from Bradford and actors from the soap, Emmerdale, have joined together to encourage runners to take part in the city's Half Marathon, which promotes the charity Age UK.

With this backing, the Bradford City Run looks set to be even more successful than last year which is good news for the charity Age UK.

Emmerdale stars Natalie Anderson, a recent addition to the cast as Alicia and Duncan Preston who plays Doug Potts have joined together with Bradford sports stars to support the run. The sports stars are Bradford city players Shane Duff and Dave Syers, as well as their junior coach Junior Lewis, along with Bradford Bulls' England International prop Andy Lynch.

This group of stars is encouraging runners of all abilities an ages to join the Bradford City Run, which is a 5k fun run as well as 3k and 1k junior races. The Bradford City Run will start off on 17th October from the Alhambra Theatre at 9am. Roads will be closed to traffic enabling runners to be safe and take in the views. The route will go through the Lower Grange, the village of Thornton and up to Harrop Edge. It will then circle back around to Chellow Heights and will eventually arrive in Lister Park, Manningham.

Paul Flowers who is a Bradford Councillor with responsibility for Sport, Culture and Tourism said: "We're delighted we've got such great local names supporting the Bradford City Run which will be even bigger and better than last year's event. Our half marathon takes in city and rural views which reflects the diversity of the district and contributes to a unique experience."

All participants will receive a goody bag and a commemorative medal. Runners can raise sponsorship for the most vulnerable group of people by running the Bradford City Run, which promotes Age UK.

Age UK has the vision of a world where the older people in our society flourish. The charity aims to improve later life for everyone, which they do by offering information, advice, products, training, research and campaigns.

Age UK aim to ensure that older people have enough money for a secure and decent life and have access to the healthcare and social care that they need. They want to ensure that older people have the chance to longer, healthier lives and enjoy a sense of well-being.

The charity also want to give opportunities to older people to participate and contribute as active citizens, volunteers, good neighbours, workers and family members. Age UK has a free national information line which is open 365 days a year, from 8am to 7pm.

Congratulations to the sports stars, soap stars, all of the runners and those who sponsor them for the Bradford City Run which promotes this extremely worthy charity, Age UK.
