Staying on Your Watch Game

by Mark Etinger

A lot of us would like to own more watches than we do. It is simply a matter of practicality and affordability. By looking into watch straps and watch bands for sale, we can choose different straps and bands for a watch (duh!) which in turn can give the watch a new look and make it easily incorporated into new outfits. It is not the ideal solution to the "not enough watches" dilemma, but is certainly a good start.

If you have a watch on cloth or leather straps you may consider breathing new life into it by having a steel or silver band put in to replace the leather. This will make the watch a bit flashy-er and could spell the difference between a night on the town watch and quiet evening at home watch. Remember that any change to the strap or band is easily reversible.

Another way you can breathe new life into a watch collection without going out and spending a fortune on watches is by polishing and old watch. Polishing entails cleaning the watch thoroughly from the inside-out. This in turn makes the watch not only look better, but run better as well. It is like adding a whole new watch to your wardrobe, but only paying a fraction of its price. It is hard to find a deal like that in the luxury watch world.

If you know another watch enthusiast (one you trust) you may want to temporarily swap a watch or two. That way both of you gets to be seen with some new wrist candy without having to pay for it. Just make sure you trust the person enough not to lose, damage, or abscond with the watch.

Staying trendy in the watch world can be expensive, but with a few cost cutting measures it is within everyone's reach. Until the day luxury watches are affordable to all, the watch coinsure is going to have to beg, borrow, and steal to get his wares.

If you are in the market for luxury watches but are on a tight budget, most people would suggest hitting thrift stores, flea markets, junk sales, and estate sales. That is where the best deals on watches are to be had, there is no denying. It is not as easy as just going to a store and picking up a Tag Heuer or Rado watch but if you work hard at combing flea markets you can probably find a good watch (that needs a bit of restoring) for very cheap.
