Getting To Know Women Skate Boarders
As the popularity of skateboarding grows, more and more females are beginning to get into this incredibly addicting sport. While almost 3 out of every 4 skateboarders are male, there is always room for people of all ages, color and gender in skateboarding. In fact, there is nothing a woman skateboarder can't do, if she puts her mind to it. This is the approach that many women are taking today and is the reason why skateboarding is exploding with females.
If you look around many skate parks today, you will see that many of the females are gladly accepted by the male skaters. Many of the skaters I have seen more than go out of their way to offer the female skaters tips and advice on how to get better and land their tricks.
The good news is that more and more websites and magazines are popping up everywhere that both support and follow female skateboarding. There is even "The Alliance" which is a non-profit association devoted to encouraging female skateboarders.
The last decade has seen many of the first female pro skateboarders, such as Elissa Steamer, who turned pro in 1998 and won the first women's pro skateboard competition that same year in Vancouver. Inspired by females such as Elissa Steamer, many more females have since turned pro.
The speed and agility of pro female skateboarders can rival that of most men, and many times the only way you can tell them apart is when their helmets are off. The tricks and skating ability of these women have to be seen to be believed.
Now there are more and more female skateboarding competitions and camps popping up all over the country. This is a great way to meet and bond with many local female skaters in your area.
Today many manufacturers are starting to include female only skateboards and accessories. Everything from skateboards, to clothes, shoes and helmets are being made exclusively for women. While these lines aren't as prominent as the men's lines, it is proof that female skateboarding is definitely here to stay!
If you are female or have a young daughter who is interesting in getting into skateboarding, there is no better time than the present. Skateboarding is fun, exciting and a great form of exercise. You will also meet new friends and have the time of your life!
