Home Business Can Benefit From Photocopiers

by Kathryn Lang

Starting a home business requires planning, organization, and budgeting. Many people starting out on their own save money by buying equipment that can multi-task. They choose filing cabinets that can be used as extra desktop space and desks that will house their office supplies and the computer. When it comes to photocopiers, few see the benefits in the seemingly single task machine.

For most home businesses, the machine of choice serves the multipurpose of faxing, copying, scanning, and printing. It can be a budget making choice, especially for businesses where multiple copies are not going to happen very often. If there is going to be lots of paper work, then the new entrepreneur might want to consider investing in a photocopier.

A few months ago, my husband (a high school teacher) brought homes some papers he needed reworked. It was easy enough to adjust them in the computer. Then it was time to print out and copy the new papers – 5 pages and 50 copies of each page. After an hour of printing, we decided that the little multitask printer might not be up for the job. We went to the local office supply store and used their in-house photocopier. The time for copying and the round trip was less than an hour.

Photocopiers won a place in my heart that night.

There are more benefits to getting a photocopier than just saving time. The materials to run one are less expensive per page than those used in printers. Photocopiers offer more options for copy size. They will even copy both sides of a paper with a push of a button, collate the copies, and some even come with staplers.

Home businesses that plan to do any amount of copying now, or in the future, would be wise to budget for the extravagance of a stand alone photocopier.
