Super Convenience For A New Resident

I am one of the many new residents of my new little city and I can tell you that so far I have had an easy time of finding everything my family has needed. We have moved several times for my husband's job but we have never moved to a community that makes life so easy. I had picked up a publication that was intended for families just like us, but didn't have a clue on whom to call for the services we needed.
If you're moving to a new city, this is one handy booklet! Everything you need is right at your fingertips. Because we did not know the area we decided to rent an apartment before buying a house. This booklet gave us everything we needed to know about the different complexes so we didn't waste our time calling on ones that did not fit our particular needs. Because our furniture was arriving before we were able to select an apartment, we needed to put it in storage for a short time. This book even gave us names of storage facilities.
In our spare time we read about the local utilities and especially the schools and school districts. These were very important. We were also able to find a listing for a church we could all attend.
But that isn't all! We were given a nice little dining and entertainment guide which has been invaluable since we were living in a hotel for a while. You can't feed your family fast food for an entire week. The kids think it is great, but we needed to find family-friendly restaurants where we could eat healthy diners. There were so many to choose from we were able to sample a new one almost every night.
Have you ever been locked in a hotel room for a week with two pre-teen boys? The guide did not have a list of emergency psychiatrists, but the magazine had a map and a list of very interesting places to see where the boys could unload some of their energy. Plus there were coupons placed by the advertisers which really saved us some money. While the company paid for the move, all the extra-curricular activities were on our own dime.
I have even used that map as my hard-copy GPS and it has helped me acclimate myself to what is where. I now know some landmarks and whether I should turn left or right to get to my desired location.
It is a shame that other communities do not publish books like these. It would have made our other relocations go so much smoother. And now I feel like my family is really part of the community thanks to all the information I was given.
